• Switch Kick For Footbiking

The endurance sport of footbiking is based on performance based switch kicking. The footbike has a central platform sized for only one foot. The athlete pivots on the heal of the foot, leaves open the front of the platform and switches to the alternate foot, toes in first. Stroke cadence on either side will depend on the intensity of your riding and the elevation of the terrain. Switch kicking 3-10 kick strokes is standard tempo.

  • Switch Kick for Spikeboarding & Endurance Skateboarding

The endurance sports of spikeboarding and skating a skateboard for endurance are based completely on switch kicking. Endurance skateboarding requires a symmetrical and steady tempo of alternating switch kick strokes. Spikeboarding's cubi-x-cross / CXC stoke requires full body, legs switch kicking while arms spike on either side using a SkateBoard Spike® patented.

Switch Kick Development Powers All Three Switch Kick Sports

Feature image
Endurance

Endurance athletics can be a recreation skill set that becomes transportation on a daily basis. Transport sport expeditions never end. The weekend ride flows freely into the week day commute. Human powered transport movement languages are many. Switch kick sports include all three hallmarks of lifelong full body fitness, strength, endurance and balance.

Footbiking

Footbiking may be a stand alone activity or a starting point for beginner switch kicking. Of the three SKS's footbiking requires next to no balance development. However switch kick power development is best done with foot biking during hill repetitions and sprints. All endurance skateboarders and spikeboarders will have and use footbikes same as swimmers use kick boards to isolate and fine tune their kicking style and power.

Endurance Skateboarding

Endurance Skateboarding requires a finely tuned switch kick along side high stamina. The sport requires 100% focus on every stroke. This sport is no different than speed skating on ice. However the skate is taken on and off during each foot during cadence strokes of 1-30 count. The arms are swung to leverage counter weight propulsion much like speed skating. The upper body however transmits no power directly in to the pavement.

Spikeboarding

Spikeboarding is the sport of full body balanced strength. A Spikeboard™ and SkateBoard Spike® pat. are used to engage the entire body during two high performance strokes. These are sus or standup spike and cxc or cubi-x-cross. CXC stroke requires a switch kick while alternately spiking with the each arm. This sport is a combination of skating and skiing on one board instead of two. The meditative state is exactly that of a cross country (Nordic) skier. The entire body is used during output. SpikeBoarding poses the greatest challenge of all three switch kick sports.
